5. The Hanson Logboat, Derby Museum
The Bronze Age logboat was found in Hanson's Shardlow gravel quarries on the River Trent. At a magnificent 10 metres in length and nearly complete, it was conserved by York Archaeological Trust Conservation Laboratory for display in Derby Museum.
It rests on a steel and timber frame with specially formed steel bars to give extra support to its sides. Panels tell the story of the logboat and the Bronze Age; around the gallery there are a number of simple interactives to enhance the story.
